On August 20th, Wall Street English Lac 1 center welcomed Mr. Kamel Bennaceur, the CEO of Nomadia Energy and Former Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mines, with his presentation of Tunisia Energy Situation and Challenges.
Mr. Kamel Bennaceur began his journey by obtaining degrees from France’s top educational institutions, the École Polytechnique and the École Normale Supérieure. After finishing his studies in 1979, he developed his career in a number of international businesses and organizations. With over 40 years of experience in the energy industry sector around the globe in both the private and public sectors, Mr. Ben Naceur took over the ministry of industry, energy, and mines in 2014-2015.
During the event, Mr. Bennaceur talked about different types of energy, its uses utilities, and locations in Tunisia as well as primary energy and final energy. He also dealt with the issue of increasing consumption and pointed out that the amount of energy consumed in Tunisia exceeds the local supply, which leads to energy deficit and the necessity of energy import from other countries.
In addition, Mr. Bennaceur discussed the subject of subsidies in the energy sector and addressed the issue of corruption and transparency. In relation to this, he introduced the audience to his project “Open Data (2014)” which aims to prevent any kind of misconduct by sharing online different types of information related to the energy sector in Tunisia including contracts and maps and making it accessible to everyone.
Throughout the event, participants shared their concerns, thoughts, and suggestions with the guest speaker, who was happy to answer all the questions. At the end of his talk, Mr. Bennaceur stressed the importance of the English language: “We must teach our managers, directors, engineers and any other team member of the Industry, Energy and Mines department the English language in order to grow and to provide every single Tunisian citizen with better service.”
It was a great pleasure for WSE Tunisia to host Mr. Kamel Bennaceur and we look forward to seeing you in our future events.
